India Mill is a four-piece alternative indie-rock band with a hard, classic rock edge. Their songs have drawn comparisons to current artists such as The National, Elbow and The War on Drugs along with the more classic rock stylings of bands such as Walking Papers, Jack White and The Black Keys.

When I first heard India Mill, it was love at first chord: their edgy alternative rock ‘n’ roll just couldn’t leave me unimpressed...

India Mill release their new single, “Caribesque” on 15th Sept 2014, taken from their forthcoming debut album, Under Every Sky. As a taster for Under Every Sky, “Caribesque” is a dramatic tour de force described by the BBC's Tom Robinson as combining ‘the introspective anxiety of Radiohead with the seismic swagger of Oasis ...'

The band is based in their hometown of Darwen, a rural ex-Milltown in Lancashire where any kind of music can find an ear and any form of pretence will be shown its rear. The band is made up of one-time school librarian Al Smith, the bass-playing front man whose quasi-operatic vocals have been compared to singers such as Jack Bruce and David Bowie; Si Nicholson, whose searing licks provide the melodic hooks to match Al’s vocals combining guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison with the more angular and modern approaches of Joey Santiago and Jonny Greenwood; Chris Coates whose old-school biker background provides the Southern roots sound to the band proving that in this land, the North is the South; and Dean Ingham whose drum style is a happy marriage of the huge, precise and focused sound of drummers such as Dave Grohl and Larry Mullen with the inventive approach of Radiohead’s Phil Selway.

"This Darwen 4-piece have a unique, addictive sound. Indie-pop mixed with retro-rock but with something else that is unique to them mixed in too. Their songs range from Bowie-esque to having almost folky/bluegrass riffs. No song sounds the same, with a vast array of different styles. India Mill have an instantly recognisable sound.."
